Eliza H. S. Gavin , Chef/Owner (970)
728-9507
Raised in Richmond, Virginia, Eliza ran her
first kitchen while attending college. After
graduation from the University of the South in
Sewanee, Tennessee, Eliza moved to New Orleans
hoping to expand her blossoming culinary career.
In New Orleans she learned about Classic Creole
Cuisine from cooking at Galatoire's, a
prestigious fine dining establishment that has
graced Bourbon Street for over one-hundred
years. She also worked at Mr. B's, a bistro
managed by the Brennan family. Eliza then moved
to Napa Valley where she attended Culinary
Institute of America at Greystone and taught a
cooking class to the community as a CIA
representative. In Napa Valley she learned the
importance of fresh ingredients. Eliza also
cooked at Brix, which was the James Beard
nominee for the best new restaurant of 1997.
Brix is an Asian influenced restaurant that
incorporates the cuisines of Asia, Hawaii and
India. Eliza continued her education by
attending Le Cordon Bleu in Paris France.
Studying under some of France's best chefs, she
learned many classical French techniques.
Shortly after moving back to the United States,
Eliza spent a year working on a cookbook before
moving to Telluride. She cooked at 221 for a
winter until she bought it in the fall of 2000.
She prepares the freshest possible ingredients
and styles that reflect her training and
experiences.

Blue Point/Noir Bar (970) 728-TUNA 123 S. Oak Seafood & Steaks
My wife and I had
our Valentine's Day"s dinner in their lounge.
This was our first time here. The place was
packed, so service suffered a little. but we
were in no hurry. Bar and wine prices are fair
for a resort restaurant. Both our entrees very
very good. They usually have nightly specials.
Reservations are suggested especially on the
weekends of holidays. The owner has several
restaurants in town. We plan to visit again to
try different entrees. I would describe the menu
as "American Bistro". |

Brown Dog
Pizza West Colorado Pizza, Wings,
Sports Bar In 2001, Dan
Lynch started VZF Pizza, LLC in Telluride,
Colorado with a partner who stayed with the
business until the fall of 2002. Under the
auspices of this company Pacific Street Pizza
was born. The following year, Jeff Smokevitch
and Joe Carena became VZF Pizza, LLC partners.
The three then co-founded Brown Dog Pizza in May
2004. It's named after their brown dogs, Boone
and Phlounder. Both Brown Dog Pizza and Pacific
Street Pizza offer east-coast style, thin-crust
pizza and an array of hot & cold subs, salads
and pastas, along with various daily specials.
After a short hiatus in late 2004, Brown Dog
Pizza reopened in the spring of 2005 in the
historic building that once housed Sofios. While
Pacific Street Pizza offers a ski town pizza
shop atmosphere with limited seating off of the
beaten path, Brown Dog Pizza offers a sports bar
atmosphere, live music, and a full bar right in
the center of town.
We proudly prepare our dough and sauce from
scratch. In addition, we use "grande" cheese and
only the freshest pizza toppings. Stop by Brown
Dog Pizza while you're in Telluride. It will be
an experience you won't forget!

Telluride Pizza Kitchen TPK
West Colorado Pizza, Salads,
Pasta
Originally what
drew me into the Telluride Pizza Kitchen &
Bistro, already known locally as TPK. TPK Pizza
TPK's menu is largely Mediterranean, Italian and
even with some Mexican flair in a few dishes.
Bruschetta is a must-have appetizer with the
flavorful tomatoes and herbs, olive oil for
dipping on the side. I had what must be the
classic pizza, titled, "TPK." It was topped with
pesto, olive oil, prawns, olives and just the
right amount of cheese. The vegetables were so
fresh that it was easy to forget I was in a
secluded mountain town. My husband had veal
funghi with the perfect mushroom sauce, and a
surprisingly large portion for the lunch menu.
Even though we were full, we couldn't resist
ordering tiramasu. This classic Italian dessert
was complete with two layers of savioardi,
otherwise known as lady fingers, and topped with
fresh berries.
We also had an incredibly helpful waiter named
Pierre, and met the very Italian Pierro. They
made us feel like we were visiting old friends.
There are a wide range of options on the menu,
but all with affordable prices. The hard work
that was done on the building over the past few
months has paid off, as TPK feels like a
authentic Mediterranean escape. I wish TPK huge
success and I hope we will be visiting them for
many years to come.

The
CornerHouse Grill (970)
728-6207 131
N. Fir
American
The other 'sports
bar' in town. It is located one block up the
hill on Fir in an old house, but the hike won't
kill you. Good hamburgers and sandwiches. If it
is warm enough, grab a table on the porch to
have lunch while you view the great landscape
around you. Bar seating is limited, so get there
early if you want to watch the game with the
locals while you knock back that Fat Tire beer.
About the only place in town you can find fish
and chips. |

The
Cosmopolitan
In the main
dining room, Chef/Owner Chad Scothorn offers
fine dining with generous portions and
outstanding ingredients. His menu offers diverse
cuisines, including French, Southwestern,
American and Thai. Though the overall approach
is "fusion," you'll never find crossed cultures
on one plate. No matter what you order, the
Cosmo has the perfect complementary wine. Choose
from over 200 vintages from all over the world.
The Tasting Cellar, with its rustic "Old World"
wine cellar ambiance also serves delectable
meals by Chef Chad Scothorn. It is the perfect
place to come for private parties.

Excelsior Café
(970)
728-4250 200
W. Colorado
Italian/ American This
definitely seemed to be a hot spot in Telluride,
and we were lucky to get a table outside on the
small patio. The inside vibe is cool and people
seemed to be really enjoying the wine or
cocktails on the fun short tables. We sat
outside and enjoyed the view and the evening
air. The food was tasty. I had the Orecchiette
Pasta which had a nice kick to it. My husband
had the trout and our friend had the lamb pasta.
The restaurant is not cheap, but I suppose it is
about norm these days - higher teens and
twenties, if I am remembering the prices
correctly. I would eat here again!

Fat
Alley (970)
728-3985 122
S. Oak BBQ Pork ribs and
seasoned steak fries... I'd actually give it 4
stars for the rest of the food I've tried here -
ok pulled pork sandwich with blah coleslaw and
and oniony black beans and spinach. Pretty good
briscuit sandwich and fried okra. The sweet
potato fries are good with a tad bit of salt but
lots of grease remains on the skins. BUT 5 stars
on the pork ribs - they're done just right, a
little bit of fat, but the nice smokey flavor
and the amount you get will make you full! The
seasoned steak fries are also excellent. This
place gets your food out pretty fast which is
nice after you've spent your energy and just
want to eat and now. The prices here are pretty
decent as well after ordering over-priced just
ok food at the base.
I'd come here over and over and just order ribs
and fries.

Burgers, salads, sandwiches,
steaks, and specialty items including
world-class seafood gumbo, duck French onion

All served in the heart of historic Telluride,
on Main Street, in a Western-styled saloon.
The Floradora Saloon is a family-owned and

Honga's
Lotus Petal (970)
728-5134 133
S. Oak
Asian Located in the
beautiful ski resort town of Telluride,
Colorado, Honga's Lotus Petal is a favorite amid
locals and tourists. The Pan-Asian restaurant
has a dynamic vibe that is funky, yet chic and
sophisticated, featuring superb food like fresh
sushi and traditionally eclectic Eastern fare.
Changing regularly, the extensive menu uses fine
and authentic ingredients that honor the cuisine
of Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, Vietnam,
India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Polynesia.There
is also a full bar offering an extensive wine,
sake and beer menu, in addition to colorful
tropical cocktails...most notably, the potent
and delicious Mojito.
In the 17 years since its inception, Honga's
Lotus Petal has evolved into a Telluride
institution, priding itself on being more than
just a good place to eat. Named for the lotus
flower, which symbolizes life, growth, and
consciousness, the establishment aims to
represent much of the same, focusing on
individual health, as well as the health of the
planet overall. All dishes are prepared on site,
using local, natural, organic, and free-range
ingredients whenever possible. Food is an art
form, as well as the root to survival. Honga's
Lotus Petal melds these two concepts seamlessly,
which results in a veritable celebration for the
senses. Honga's Lotus Petal is open nightly
during the winter and summer seasons and
centrally located right downtown on Telluride's
main street.

Siam
Davis Street 970- 728-6886
WOW! Everything we tried was superb. On a visit
from NJ, where we enjoy lots of Thai food, we
visited Telluride's Siam. It's off the main
drag, but worth the trip (3 blocks!). Aside from
the usual Thai fare, the Fusion Menu is
wonderful, creative & delicious. I'm not
normally a scallop eater, but Siam's were the
BEST! We enjoyed it so much that we dined there
twice in the 3 days we were there, sampling a
variety of items. The atmosphere is fun, it's
small, but worth the wait if necessary. I highly
recommend Siam.

La
Piazza del Villaggio (970)
728-8283 Blue
Mesa Lodge
Italian Inspired by the
beautiful town squares throughout Italy, Paolo
and wife Carmela opened La Piazza on December
20, of 1998, in Mountain Village, Colorado as a
meeting place for stylish authentic Italian
dining, relaxation, and special events. Our
resort location is ski-in, golf-in, a
spectacular gondola up from Telluride, or a slow
stroll from your lodge.
La Piazza's history is defined by two sets of
individuals. The first set is the artisans that
have dedicated their time and energy to its
purpose. People such as Piero Carusi, Luca
Ramponi, Stefano Canclini, and the many long
term and seasonal staff whose spirit of service
and commitment have created in La Piazza, a true
ambassador of fine Italian wine and foods.
Secondly, and of most importance, our history is
defined by those whom we have served.

Menu Great place to hang
after a hard day on the slopes. Very local and
hip with a nice buzz in the air but not loud.
Good beer and better than bar food - the
Chili-Mac is a destination of it's own.
This is just a long-bar with a few tables and
lots of locals. My husband and I ventured in
here after freezing our butts off walking around
cold Telluride. The chili/mac was perfect to
warm your bones and amazingly done right. I
don't typically order mac n cheese, but this
just looked great. The mac portion of this
chili/mac was obviously home made with lots of
cheese sauce done just right and the chili had
beef chunks in it. What a great idea and
excellent mixture. You could make it at home
fast but it wouldn't be near as good. My husband
ordered a sandwich with waffle fries and I
forget the name of it - lots of meat and it was
good - I polished off the fries. Both of us
wanted to go back for the chili/mac.
